My apologies for missing my blog post in July! I was dealing with a persistent respiratory issue for several weeks. It was an interesting experience because I usually have a super-strong immune system. I am happy to be well again.
I have been recently reminded how important family is. I was fiercely independent growing up and this attitude helped me achieve and succeed in life. But, because of my strong attitude, my family members and I did not always get along well.
Over the years, we have all opened our hearts and healed our relationships with many apologies and with forgiveness. The power of letting go of baggage is an incredible gift. When it happens, the inner peace and joy we feel is almost indescribable. It is relief. It is freedom.
We now immensely enjoy reminiscing about the good times growing up. We tell tales and stories about family holidays, milestones and events. We sometimes remember things differently and laugh at ourselves. We have forgotten about the challenges because they no longer have an emotional charge; or, at least they don’t seem to matter.
I cherish my family deeply. I honour my parents, sisters and their families. I am filled with gratitude.
Our families can be great teachers. What have you learned from your family recently?
